October means fall in the Midwest which means that this month is usually the time when the leaves change in Moberly, Missouri.
If you have never experienced fall in Moberly before the crisp, cool air can take your breath away in the morning, Friday nights are filled with football games and sitting on a dock at Rothwell Lake watching the leaves change is absolutely breathtaking. Here are the five reasons we are “fall”ing in love with Moberly this year.
1. The leaves! How could we not start out my talking about how beautiful Moberly is in the fall and how pretty the leaves are when turn into various shades of orange, red and yellow? One of our top recommendations are to find a dock and watch the leaves fall at Rothwell Park, one of the largest city-owned parks in Missouri. With almost 500 acres you could go to the overlook, watch them from a camper in Thompson Campground, ride in the Moberly Mini Train and so much more. Rothwell Park is truly Moberly’s gemstone during the fall season.
Another very pretty park in Moberly during the fall is Lion’s Beuth Park. This old quarry now has a unique element of Moberly’s history, a train car bridge. View the beautiful fall leaves here with the picturesque water in the background.
2. With the temperature decreasing another top place to visit is the Moberly Five and Drive.

5. Agri-tourism activities. In case you didn’t know this time of year is harvest season in the Midwest, which means that many farmers are harvesting their crops and preparing for the upcoming winter months. Why does this matter to you, the visitor? Well an amazing local orchard, is doing just that, harvesting its goods.
Shepherd Farms Pecan Orchard in Clifton Hill, just 15 minutes West of Moberly is a pecan farm that harvests and sells pecans from October – December each year. Besides, pecans they also have assorted nuts, jams, jellies and honeys.
Additionally, The Clark Missouri Amish Community, 15 minutes South of Moberly, also has a lot of opportunities to see agriculture and a different way of life.
This community has various stores that sell everything from baked goods, to sewed items, furniture and you might even find some mums if they haven’t sold out already!
Moberly is a wonderful place to visit during the fall season, with just a few of the reasons listed above. We hope that you fall in love with Moberly as much as we do and experience everything this small-town with a big heart has to offer.
