Summer is right around the corner and there are so many wonderful activities to do in the Moberly area to experience the outdoors. From kayaking at Rothwell Park, attending a Friday Night Cruise & Concert or taking a trip to Amish country here are just a few of our favorite outdoor activities in Moberly.
Moberly is home to one of the largest city-owned parks in the state of Missouri. With more than 500 acres Rothwell is the crown jewel in Moberly. Amenities include two disc golf courses, two lakes, Howard Hils Athletic Complex with baseball and football fields, the Moberly Mini Train, Moberly Aquatic Center, Thompson Campground, numerous shelters, several playgrounds, miles of trails and nature to explore.
2. West 43 Wilderness Area
If visitors are looking to hike in rougher terrain, West 43 Wilderness Area is the perfect location to do just that. This undeveloped land is connected to Rothwell Park. It is located South of Howard Hils Athletic Complex. This facility allows visitors to experience nature in a safe and beautiful way.
3. ATV Trail Map
Own an ATV? Imagine riding through the countryside of Randolph County on your ATV with a beautiful summer breeze flowing in the air. An ATV Trail Map can be found here.
A summer pastime of many is golfing. This low-intensity activity is perfect for all ages. Walk through the beautiful greens of the 18-hole Heritage Hills Golf Course as you play a round of golf or two.
Love fishing for black bass, catfish, crappie, or sunfish? Head to the 320-acre Sugar Creek Lake to fish on the water or view the lake. This beautiful gem has some gorgeous summer sunsets that can’t be beat.
An even bigger lake than Sugar Creek is Thomas Hills Reservoir located 15 miles outside of Moberly. This facility has a total of 9,431 acres making it the largest body of water in Randolph County, Missouri. Learn more about all the activities to do at Thomas Hill here.
7. Friday Night Cruise & Concerts
Friday Night Cruise & Concerts are returning for the third year in a row. These events are held every second Friday in May, June, July and August. They feature a free concert, food trucks, cash bar and a chance to cruise in Moberly. The concert, food trucks and bar are held at the outdoor venue, The Fennel at 315 N Clark St.
This summer series has become a Moberly staple bringing in attendees from Mid and Northeast Missouri to spend a Friday evening cruising and enjoying the weather.

8. Moberly Railroad Days
If you are looking for funnel cakes and a carnival for the summer, Moberly’s Railroad Days will be held on June 12-15 at Depot Park in Downtown Moberly. This event features nightly entertainment, tours of the railroad museum, a carnival, food vendors, beer garden, bingo and so much more. View more details by clicking the link here.
9. HLR Motorsports Park
Love to watch racing events? HLR Motorsports, located in Huntsville, 10 minutes West of Moberly has multiple motocross races per month. These races are open to the public and only $10 admission. They host a summer series, events during the evening to beat that summer heat and several championship events. Their yearly event schedule can be found here.
10. Clark Amish Community
For visitors or locals that have never traveled to the Amish Community in Clark (15 minutes South of Moberly) this community will pique your interest when visiting. Besides their homemade goods, hand-sewn items, homemade woodwork and fresh produce, this community has something for everyone.
Keep in mind that the Amish don’t have phones, social media, air conditioning or follow daylight savings time. Be mindful of horses and buggies when driving in this region. Maps can be found here.
11. 4th of July Extravaganza
Besides baseball, celebrating our Independence Day is an American staple. Moberly is lucky enough to host the 4th of July Extravaganza. This all-day holiday celebration features games, food trucks, beer garden, bounce houses, live entertainment and one of the largest synchronized fireworks shows in Missouri.
